Summer camps
Moorland Hall is located in the beautiful surroundings of Dartmoor National Park. We have five acres of paddock and gardens with a swimming pool, all of which are open to our guests. We have run international summer courses for young people for over 20 years. We offer children a wonderful opportunity to learn English and enjoy a wide range of professionally run adventure activities.
Learning English
We like to encourage our overseas guests to take advantage of English tuition on four mornings or afternoons a week. The lessons build confidence in the use of English and children very quickly feel the benefits of a little structured, but fun tuition. The students common bond is English, which encourages them to speak and learn the language whilst making new friends. Our English teachers are motivated, committed and enthusiastic.
Accommodation
Our guests live as part of the family and sleep in the main house, attached coach house or lodge with other children of a similar age. Rooms can accommodate between 3 and 12 children. Our Housemothers provide close supervision at night, and in free periods during the day, so there is always someone there just in case they are needed. In the main house we have a large sunny sitting room, a conservatory, a television room and a dining room. Children can use all the facilities. They settle in quickly and enjoy the freedom of our family home.
Ideal ages
Children should be between the ages of 9 and 15. Many of our guests come on their own but they soon meet and mix with other children. Because we are a small organisation we can keep a careful eye on everyone and make sure they are happy and enjoying their holiday. We pay particular attention to our very youngest guests to ensure they do not get too tired and are eating and mixing well. Those who have not been away from home before may like to bring a friend with them.
Our summer camps usually run for two weeks at a time. Arrivals are at London’s Heathrow airport on Sunday morning, with departures on Saturday afternoon. We meet all our guests at the airport and we see them safely through the check-in procedure on their departure. For our younger guests, we strongly recommend that parents make arrangements for them to fly as unaccompanied minors.
Loads to do
We introduce children to the sort of exciting activities that young people dream about doing. The experience helps to build confidence and develop teamwork, leadership and social skills. All our activities are carried out under the guidance of highly qualified instructors and supervisors. Safety is our top priority. The equipment we use is modern and well maintained.
What your child will need to bring
We will send you a list of suggested clothing after you have made your booking. We provide all specialist equipment for the activities and recommend that children don’t bring too many personal possessions and certainly nothing of great value. You should make sure that all clothing and possessions are clearly marked, so that we can ensure all items are returned to you at the end of the holiday.
