Language Activity Courses Summer Camps
Jo Farrington have been running Summer Camps offering
English language courses and activity holidays for young people
for over 20 years. Providing professionally run courses in a personal
environment is a winning combination. At Moorland Hall, children
from all over Europe mix with other nationalities and experience
a variety of adventure activities and cultural outings, as well
as receiving English language tuition.
Guests live with the Farrington family, and with a
maximum of 40 children staying at any one time, they quickly get
to know each other, and so really are made to feel at home in the
relaxed and happy atmosphere of this lovely family home.
A Host Of Activities:
The activities
we organise include many of the things that young people dream about
doing, even if they are designed to develop qualities of leadership,
stamina, teamwork and confidence! Our aim is for everyone to have
fun while achieving the challenges set for them.
Safety is our priority, and our equipment is modem
and well maintained. Fully qualified instructors always supervise
all activities, which include:
There are also many indoor activities such as:
- table tennis
- billiards
- a wide variety of board games, designed to encourage the children
to speak English.
Learning English:
The key to success is learning in the right environment.
The relaxed atmosphere of Moorland Hall encourages children to make
friends, which gives them the incentive to practice English.
Most of our overseas guests take advantage of having
English tuition for 4 mornings or afternoons a week and we do strongly
recommend it. Alternative activities can be arranged if tuition
is not required.
All our teachers are native English speakers, qualified
to teach English to overseas students. The lessons are educational,
fun and challenging and in a 2 week period, we notice that their
confidence grows enormously, encouraging them to communicate more
and more in English.
Travel Arrangements:
Our holidays are organised in units of two weeks.
Arrivals are at London's Heathrow airport on Sunday morning, with
departures on Saturday afternoon. We meet all our guests at the
airport and at the end of their stay assist them with check-in.
For our younger guests, we arrange for them to fly as unaccompanied
minors and ensure that the airline assists them throughout their
journey home.
Accommodation Arrangements:
Our guests live as part of the family and sleep in
the main house or in the attached coach
house in rooms
with between 5 and 10 children. We have male and female staff who,
together with Jo Farrington, provide close supervision at night,
so there is always someone at hand if the need arises.
In the main house there is a large sunny sitting room,
a conservatory,
television and dining room. One of the features of Moorland Hall
is that it is a family home and because of the relaxed atmosphere,
children do quickly feel at home here.
Ideal Ages:
Children should be between the ages of 9-15. Many
of our guests come alone, but very soon mix with all the other children.
Because we are a small organisation, we can keep a careful eye on
how everyone is getting on, to make sure they are happy and enjoying
their holiday. We pay particular attention to our very youngest
visitors to ensure that they do not get over tired. Those who have
not been away from home before may like to bring a friend with them.
What Your Child Will Need To Bring:
We will send you a list of suggested clothing after
you have made your booking. We provide all specialist equipment
for the activities and recommend that children don't bring too many
personal possessions, and certainly nothing of great value. You
should make sure that all clothing and possessions are clearly marked,
so that we can ensure that all items come back to you at the end
of the holiday!
