Group
Language and Activity Courses
Jo
Farrington has been running English language and multi-activity
courses for school groups for over 20 years. Providing professionally
run courses, which incorporate English tuition, cultural excursions
and outdoor activities is a winning combination.
How
Are The Courses Organised?
On
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, students will receive three
hours of English tuition from qualified English teachers, who have
been specially trained in teaching English to overseas students.
Once
the English classes are over, students spend the afternoons participating
in a carefully chosen programme of outdoor activities. These are
designed to develop qualities such as leadership, trust, stamina,
teamwork and confidence. At the same time, the students are having
to communicate in English at all times during these activities.
We find that once out of the classroom situation, the students begin
to relax and loose their inhibitions about speaking English. It
is an ideal way to learn a language and every day they grow more
confident.
On
Wednesday and at the weekend, excursions are organised to see some
of the surrounding countryside and local attractions, as well as
spending a little time visiting our nearby cities for shopping.
Safety:
Safety
is our priority and our equipment is modern and well maintained.
Fully qualified instructors always supervise all the activities, which
include:
What
Are Visiting Staff Expected To Do?
Once
the group arrives in England, we will organise all aspects of the
day to day running of the course. We do ask visiting staff to provide
supervision when the programme is not running, i.e. meal times,
bed times and helping supervise the group on excursions. Many staff
join in with the activities, although this is entirely up to the
individual.
What
Are The Sleeping Arrangements?
Guests
live as part of the family, with visiting staff staying in the main
house in comfortable en-suite rooms, or in the staff room in the
attached coach
house. Students sleep in large comfortable rooms in the coach house with between 6 and 12 children in any one room.
What
Are The Catering Arrangements?
Meals
are served in the main dining room. A full English breakfast, light
lunch, afternoon tea and cakes and an evening meal are provided
each day. The home-cooked food is both nourishing and plentiful
and on the final day of the course we provide a typical Devonshire
cream tea, which is always very popular!
Special
diets can be catered for, but please let us know in advance.
Course
Content:
We
understand that all schools have different aims when arranging trips
abroad for their students and hence requirements may well alter
from one school to another. We will tailor make a course to your
exact requirements. If for example you require a longer stay in
London, this can be arranged. Alternatively some groups prefer a
more intense English course, incorporating project work which can
be continued once the group has returned home.
We
will visit you to discuss all these requirements and can arrange
to do a slide presentation to the class and parents if required.
What
Will The Students Need To Bring?
A
clothing list and medical forms will be sent to the group leader,
once the booking is confirmed. We will provide all the specialist
equipment for the activities and recommend that children don't bring
too many personal possessions, and certainly nothing of great value.
Students
may wish to bring some spending money, this is purely for their
own needs - there are no hidden extra's that they will be expected
to pay for.
